How this EV savings calculator works

Monthly travel equals your daily kilometres multiplied by the number of days you ride. Petrol consumption is estimated by dividing monthly kilometres by your scooter’s km/L mileage. Electricity use is calculated from Wh/km, plus charging losses. Both sides can include an annual maintenance estimate.

Example: 35 km each day for 26 days

That is 910 km monthly. At an assumed ₹105/L and 45 km/L, petrol alone is roughly ₹2,123 per month. At 35 Wh/km and ₹8/kWh, the energy for an electric scooter costs significantly less, but actual electricity consumption, charger losses, maintenance and tariffs differ by household and vehicle.

For a fair total-ownership comparison, separately consider the vehicle’s initial purchase cost, insurance, finance, tyres, repairs, warranty, depreciation and potential battery replacement. This calculator does not predict lifetime savings or guarantee a financial outcome.

Common questions

Is running an EV always cheaper than petrol?

Energy cost per kilometre is frequently lower for an efficient EV under typical electricity tariffs, but total ownership value depends on vehicle prices, charging, maintenance and depreciation.

Does claimed IDC range equal real-world range?

No. Real usage varies with speed, temperature, road conditions, riding mode, load and battery state.

Why include charging losses?

Power drawn from the socket can exceed the energy stored in the battery. Allowing for conversion loss makes the estimate more realistic.
